The Goodwins have been spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through song since 1982. The group members are John Goodwin (BG Vocals), daughter, Martha Drake (Lead Vocals / Songwriter) and Martha's 4 yr old Daughter, Katie Drake (BG Vocals). Martha's husband, Alfred is the sound technician for the group. Her 12 year old son Brandon assists with the equipment & product table, making for a very family focused ministry.

The father - daughter duo began singing together in 1974 when Martha was just 4 years old. They started with nothing more than an acoustic guitar. Through the years they added other members to their family group which included John's father & brother. In 1982 John gave his life to the Lord. Later that same year, John was instrumental in leading his father, brother & daughter, Martha to the Lord. It was then that the ordinary family group was transformed into The Goodwins that audiences know today.

After the death of baritone singer, Brian Ketron, in 2000, The Goodwins temporarily ended their traveling. The current group was reformed 7 years later & The Goodwins returned to the road, ready for many years to come!

They have had numerous songs on the national charts & were featured in an article in Singing News Magazine in August, 1997. The Goodwins previous radio singles include: "That's My Boy", "Amen Corner", & "The Walk" etc. Their most recent single, "Jesus Died Like A Man" debuted at #1 on the Gospel Music Times Top 100 Chart where it remained for 4 consecutive weeks (June 09). It has been steadily climbing the Christian Voice Magazine's Top 100 Chart as well (Oct 09).

Over the years, The Goodwins have shared the stage with such artists as The Freemans, The Singing Cookes, The Paynes (Mike Payne), The Kingsmen, Gold City etc. They have performed in such venues as Heritage USA (PTL Club) and have shared services with such speakers as internationally known minister, Jack Van Impe.

Martha is an accomplished songwriter with many recorded songs to her credit. She is credited with such songs as, "That's My Boy" (recorded by The Wilburns and more recently Cheryl Paige Edelmann), "Amen Corner", "24/7", "The Walk", "Jesus Died Like A Man" & many, many others. Some of today's most popular artists have recorded her songs.

Their most recent projects to date include: "He gave Up Heaven" (1997, Eddie Crook Co), "The Walk" (1999, Eddie Crook Co) & their newest MorningStar Signature project, "Reflections". This new project contains all original material from Martha's pen.

The Goodwins goals are to see souls saved & to see Christians uplifted. The Goodwins share songs, testimonies, laughter & tears with every congregation. They bring an energy to every performance that comes from a true love of what they do and the Savior that called them to do it. Their dynamic vocal ability combined with their unique songs assure a performance which brings something for every one!

Jess, Mike, Denzil, & Mike

Denzil Harper

Denzil was born July 5 to Perry and Genive Harper. Denzil and his wife Ruby have been married for 26 years. They have 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Denzil has been singing Gospel music for 32 years. He has sung in various groups. When the Prophets regrouped in 1998, Denzil joined the group and has faithfully sung tenor with the group. Denzil's desire is to sing for HIS glory and tell others about Jesus through singing.

Michael "Squirrel" Watts

Born May 20 in Zanesville, Ohio, to James and Elizabeth Watts, Mike is the second of 3 children. Mike and Darlene have been married 34 years and have 2 children, Jess and Andre, and 3 grandchildren.

Mike has been singing Gospel Music for 25 years, most of which, as a soloist. Mike had prayed several years for an opportunity to sing in a group. He joined the New Prophets in February 2008.

Mike Baria

Mike Baria was born on August 28 to Jean and Paul Baria. He and his wife Kim have been married for going on ten years. They have one daughter, September. Mike has been with the New Prophets for over two years.

Mike's desire is to see souls saved through song and ministry. He began running sound for the group and has recently stepped up as the lead vocalist.

Jess Rice

Jess Rice was born January 16th to John and Rose Rice. He and his wife Dona have been married for 27 years and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Jess started out singing with his family fifteen years ago in their own group called "God's Country."

Joining the New Prophets is an answer to Jess's desire to sing in a quartet for the Lord.
